The electroblades - or electroblade swords - were melee weapons with cylindrical blades that delivered painful shocks on contact instead of cutting or cauterizing like a normal sword or lightsabers. The electroblade was widely used as a combat melee weapon by both the Imperial and Republic Armies, as well as by paramilitary groups and planetary defense forces.
